It seems like all the movies I want to download are .AVI and they won't load on Windows Media Player. I have searched on google and tried finding some sort of installations so it works, some sort of help would be appreciated :)

The best movie player i know about is "mplayer" :
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html

Dont be misleaded by the name, it has nothing in common with the windows media player. It comes with all codecs you can imagine pre-installed, it can dump or read from different kind of streaming protocols and has the best compatibility compared to anything else i found.

Make sure you take the windows version. It's supposed to be a command line tool, but it's possible to use it easily, you can either create a shortcut on your desktop and drop the files you want to watch on it, or associate all the .avi to it.

Keys and configuration options are explained in the doccumentation, but you can survive as long as you know that you can skip forward/backward 10s, 1min, 10 min with left/right arrow, up/down, page up/page down. You can know the time by pressing the "o" letter.

It can seems a little a little unfriendly at the first sight but it's the kind of software like the gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) or firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) that everybody use now in my family and that all your friend will use if they try it.

What did you download to get the AVI file to work? I need to use an AVI file for school tomorrow but I can't freaking get it to work, it's annoying as hell. I downloaded the DiVX thing and it still doesn't work.
