I started playing online poker for cash daily about 1-1/2 months ago, I have turned my original 50$ deposit into over 3grand, Playing in my spare time and wishing I was playing while I was at work.
Im prolly going to quit my job since it doesnt pay even close to what I make playing poker.

Anybody know any full time poker players? How do they live?

Well, I'm sure your good at it, but people can run out of luck. It's really dissapointing, even though I have NO idea, so you dont have to listen to me. :) I'm sure you're great at poker. Don't quit your job. You'll regret it in the future.

Im not sure if you know him, but talk to Cyre, someone who is ten times your equal in being cool at life.(not difficult seeing as its you). He goes and plays in real poker tournaments face to face. And he wins a ton of alot. Of course you might not be good at bluffing, knowing how to read reactions or something that is important in real poker, but if you want to learn about it, talk to cyre. You have to be practicial and not take the easy way out...I say this not because it's (supposedly) an easy way to make money, but simply because poker does not gurarantee you security. Now being honest, neither does a job, with people being made redundant all over the place....but it's a hell of a lot more secure than playing poker.

Plus do you really want to go through your life playing poker for money, especially when it's online? The best way to keep your mind going and being with it is to talk to people all the time....that's why people who work continuously and have dealings with people externally tend to be the most knowledgeable about things. Sure you might get successful,,,but then again, you might fail. And if you fail, there's nothing that's going to pull you back up because you haven't got a proper job.

I like to gamble once in a while...I go to watch the gee gee's when there is an event or go to casinos when im on holiday etc. But when you do it on a daily basis to the extent where it takes over your life, then it becomes a gambling problem....and that's when you've got to worry, cause 99% you'd end up piss-broke on your arse.

Have a good think about what you're doing....unless you're extremely lazy and can't be bothered to do anything, you haven't thought this through. If you're not happy with your job, get a better one...and keep poker as a hobey. That's my advice anyways.

When I'm older, I'm guessing late 20's or 30's. I'm going to get into real estate investments, from what I hear from my Aunt and articles, it's extremely profitable. I think that's how the owner of the New York Yankees got all his money, god damn that man is rich.. 200+ million payroll a year?

Making money 1/3 of the time is boring? I have kept track of my past Real games i've gone to, friends/my house.. I have been winning 1/3 of the time. That's a pretty good profit.. Considering when there is a 10$/20$ buy-in and the 1st place prize can be 100+.

Total Profit: $120 in Three Tournies

Poker is nothing more than a hobby and a way to make a little extra cash, not to mention an even better way to lose a lot of cash. I guarantee i play more poker than any one of you, and i havent even played 1 online hand for real cash in my life.. it's still just a hobby, and if you allow it to become your profession, then you will just end up worse than you started.. the chances of winning a huge tournament with a bunch of pros isn't likely AT ALL..i dunno if u guys happend 2 watch TILT on ESPN this year, but the reason they made that show was 2 actually steer young people away from the gambling life.. it only leads to greed or misfortune down the road. Just play it once or twice a month for a medioaker amount of money.. and don't play with anybody but your friends or it can get ugly.

BTW flushes are bullshit.. STraights should be 10x better than fLushes :(

Yea thats my thinking too, however accounting is a very safe major. many jobs will accept accounting because it relates to almost anything in business. Thinking about getting my A.A. in Criminal Justice then getting my B.A. in Accounting from SDSU. Will take a little more time, but might prove useful.

My step-brother used to be a professional poker player, or considered himself one. He did nothing but play poker. He was a respectable player.

He made an alright salary, it varied, but he was really into partypoker. I think if I had to take a guess, he made about 4-8k profit. But he also wasn't putting in much money to begin with.

As for me, I enjoy to play poker. Occasionaly I will get on partypoker and play a few matches.

Chief,

An average working week is pretty much 40 hours. Some people work longer but remeber this is only an average. So that's 8 hours a day for a standard 9-5 job.

Approximately 4.5 weeks a month.....about 22 working days a month...

$3000/(22*8) = $17 / hour .....which is a lot less than your average $30-40/hour.

But yet you sometimes make $1000 an hour...sometimes $200, and yet your average is 30-40???

That really doesn't make any sense whatsoever. You can't talk about hourly rates when its this (supposedly) variable.....you are now talking about a lump sum payment.

The message is don't compare your winnings to an hourly rate......like I've said before it simply doesn't work that way. Bottom line is......you got lucky this month or past 1 months...there is absolutely no way you can say the same thing about next month.

Online and casino poker players can make a killing due to the fact of the current popularity of Texas Hold'em. A few years ago the average person didnt know what Texas'em was now the average 10 year old watches/playes it daily. Just the other day when I in arizona I saw, 3 kids playing for 25 cent hands on there patio with the there weekly allowance.

Im sure the fad will die out in a few years like many other things do, but right now is the time people are making money off the tourist that hit the casino's thinking they can play like the pro's on tv.

Heres stats from the last 30 hands

Yesterday I lost 1400$ then made back 700$ so I was -700$

Today I played for about 2 hours and made a profit of 900$ :)
Yeah I watched you play for about an hour, you lost about 80$ when I watched. When you called the flush draw (You had 6/7s spades) for $21+ that was dumb.. you didn't catch the spade and lost the $21+ the other bets.
Maybe you lost some hands previously and wanted to catch a lucky card, I do that sometimes, but not for $20+ ;)
